Words We Heard: ‘Celebrate each accomplishment’

Anyone else just totally exhausted this week? • “Jane was a heroine altogether different from any I had encountered. She was smart and strong and not afraid to speak her mind. She was most comfortable in nature, least comfortable when required to be charming. In fact, she’s reviled, punished and mistreated because she is ‘plain’ — yet Jane is essentially downright beautiful, but [she was] hated because her beauty is unique and doesn’t fit what is expected by social norms.” -KJ Sanchez, director of the Playhouse in the Park’s production of Jane Eyrein an interview with CityBeat

  • “We’re made invisible in a million ways every day of our lives, and when decisions like this happen, which say, ‘We’re not counting you,’ that contributes to this stigma. We really shouldn’t need to say in 2017 that LGBT people count.” -Meghan Maury, criminal and economic justice project director at the National LGBTQ Task Force, in an interview with The Atlantic

  • “It is simply unacceptable knowing this amazing food hits the landfill daily when it could be the difference in health for so many.” -the La Soupe team in an e-newsletter

  • “Savor that moment of creativity when you lose track of time because the thing you are doing feels just challenging enough and right in your sweet spot of ingenuity, flow and spirit. Build on that to find more creativity at work.” -Jessica Williams, change agent, in an article on She Owns It
