About special exhibition Women Breaking Boundaries on view through April 12, 2020:

Explore the role of women in art and art history through works from the museum’s permanent collection from the seventeenth century to today. The exhibition highlights works from Europe, North America and Asia that are in a range of mediums, including oil on canvas, metalwork, ceramic, prints, photography and fashion. Prominent artists featured include Lorna Simpson, Mary Cassatt, Julia Margaret Cameron, Elizabeth Catlett, Georgia O’Keeffe and Chiyo Mitsuhisa. The exhibition encourages visitors to think critically about gender, inclusion, and diversity and how that translates to our museum’s galleries.

Women Breaking Boundaries is the museum’s main contribution and focal point to the larger ArtsWave Power of Her project. A city-wide initiative of Cincinnati arts organizations, the Power of Her marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. During Power of Her, many of the museum’s permanent gallery rotations will also focus on artists who identify as female, as well as works that portray strong women subjects. Free admission. Special exhibition tickets not required.
