Dear You - A Letter-Writing Campaign to Detainees

  • 4100 Colerain Avenue Cincinnati, OH, 45223 United States (map)

Few of us can begin to imagine what life is like in ICE detention centers, and it leaves us feeling helpless as to what we can do to stand with the men, women, and children in detention. But one woman who experienced the pain and helplessness of being one of the nameless detainees in a West Coast center had an idea -- write a letter and tell someone that their story and their humanity matters.

Letters are among the few items that detainees can receive, and words of love, encouragement, and hope go a long way in reminding people that someone sees and cares for them. Join the "Dear You" letter-writing campaign (dearyous.com) started by a woman named Grace who after being released from an ICE detention center was driven to bring words of hope back into them.

Join us for the first large-scale letter-writing event on Tuesday, August 21st at the Letter Carriers' Union Hall (4100 Colerain Ave in Northside). We encourage letters to be written (at least partially) in Spanish, and will provide sample letters and phrases for non-Spanish speakers to use. Translation will also be available, but plan ahead with Google Translate or another tool if you can!

Message Ali Trianfo or email alison.trianfo@gmail.com with any questions. See you there!
