Poetry Workshop with Kayla

Interested in exploring the world of powerful womxn poetry, and your own creativity? Come to the Hum: A Womxn Collective Poetry Workshop in collaboration with local poet Kayla E. Moore on December 13! Kayla will be reading a few excerpts from powerful womxn poets ranging from Sappho, to Sylvia Plath, and reaching into some more modern poets. You’ll get to read some pieces on your own, reflect and discuss the works, and try your hand at some micro-poems! Poetry is a powerful form of self-expression and connection. Take this opportunity express and empower yourself with the written word, and connect with other womxn. No previous experience with poetry necessary ~ just a sense of curiosity.

Kayla Elizabeth Moore is a local poet and freelance writer who received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in Rhetoric and Professional Writing, with a certificate in Creative Writing, Poetry. She has works forthcoming in GRLSQUASH Magazine, Coffee People Zine, and Harness Magazine.

This month, our book club is reading a book of poetry by Mary Oliver titled "A Thousand Mornings". If beautiful imagery, the wonder of dawn, the grace of animals, and the transformative power of attention sound nice to you then consider reading with us!

Hum: A Womxn Collective is a community group committed to empowering womxn by offering a safe(r) space for relationship, volunteerism, and leadership. We are a connecting force that creates conversation and opportunity through our individual and shared learning experiences and community resources.

Our monthly meetings connect the womxn of our city. We learn and create together by exploring culturally relevant topics all hand-selected by womxn themselves.

Meetings are held in different public locations throughout Cincinnati to welcome womxn from every corner of the community. We lift the work, ideas, and skills of womxn by creating opportunities to lead and participate in workshops, events, and community engagement.
